A Prayer for Salvation

*Please read this and carefully consider it before praying the prayer near the end.

The Becoming a Christian information on this website makes it clear that God created us and loves us, but we fail to love Him in return or love others as we should.  Consider these scriptures:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”  And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the great and foremost commandment.  The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’  On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”   Matthew 22:36-40

  • Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Leviticus 19:18b

Besides this, everyone sins in thoughts or deeds in different ways.  We have a corrupt nature passed on to us, and we sin ourselves.  We are greatly self-focused.  We are unfit for heaven and God’s kingdom.  See these related scriptures:

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are ; immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealously, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practise such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.   Galatians 5:19-21

+ 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

By our own efforts we cannot meet God’s perfect standard.  We need a Saviour to deliver us from judgement and change us, who is Jesus Christ, God’s Son.

For all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God,   Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Romans 6:23

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.  For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.    John 3:16

+ John 14:6 and Acts 4:12

Jesus lived a perfect life as a man before His Father in heaven, then died for us on the cross.  Only Christ could die for our sake, as He had no sin of His own to die for.  He rose again as Saviour and Lord for those who would accept Him personally.  They can be forgiven since Jesus paid their sin debt in full, and won every good thing for them for life now and life after death.  This is God’s great love for us!

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.   2 Corinthians 5:21

But He was pierced through for our transgressions,

He was crushed for our iniquities;

The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,

And by His scourging we are healed.   Isaiah 53:5

Doing good things, going to church regularly, or a mental belief about God is not enough.  Only those who have trusted in Jesus Christ for forgiveness, and committed their life to Him as Lord can have peace with God.  Heaven will be open to them. We must be ‘born again’ (John 3:3-6, 1 Peter 1:2-4, Act 2:38-39), receiving the Holy Spirit within to make us new (2 Corinthians 5:17).  God has only provided this way.

Those who reject this will suffer eternally for not accepting God’s Son and such a great Salvation – God Himself taking the penalty of sin for His creation.  See 1 John 5:12, John 3:18, Hebrews 9:27 and Matthew 13:47-50

*Do you believe Jesus is the Son of the true living God, who died for your sin and rose to life again?  Do you want to turn from sin, receive eternal life, and live for God?  Christ will become your Saviour, and must also be your Lord.

If you are ready, pray the following prayer.  If you are genuine, God will hear you and do it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I believe Your Son Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross and rose from the dead, to save me from my sin.

I know I have lived my way.  I have rebelled against You and Your ways and ignored You to some degree.  I’ve had wrong thoughts, actions and motives.  I’m so sorry.  In Your mercy, please forgive me for all my sin.  Thank You Lord.  I receive Your forgiveness.

I now make Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour of my life.  Give me Your Holy Spirit to change me.  Make me a member of Your family,  and bring me close to You.  Help me to love You and others.

Thank You I have eternal life now.  Thank You Lord that You have a purpose for my life. I will live for You now.

Amen.
